Group Histories
FORMED: The MSCA 09 Archives committee was formed by Assembly Action in 1982. Since its inception the Archives have been in three repositories - the most current is at 7111 Arlington Avenue, #B, Riverside CA 92503.
PRIMARY PURPOSE: The purpose of the MSCA 09 Archives is to carry the message of Alcoholics Anonymous through its historical perspective. This is accomplished through gathering, preserving, and display historical material concerning the development of Alcoholics Anonymous in Southern California and MSCA09 in particular. It is our goal that this material will be used extensively by anyone interested in the history of Alcoholics Anonymous.
COMMITTEE MEETINGS: The Committee meetings monthly on the third Saturday of each month in the Archives Repository (7111 Arlington Avenue, #B, Riverside CA 92503). The Committee also meets at the monthly Area meetings. However, most of the work is discussed at the monthly meetings. All of our meetings are open to everyone.
Open House - Held in the spring to mark the anniversary of moving into the first Archives Repository in Colton. Open House was created to introduce the Archives of the Fellowship.
Heritage Day - Held in the fall and hosted by a MSCA 08 District. Heritage Day is designed for a panel of long-timers to share what it was like when they got sober and how Service helped to keep them sober.
Movie Night - Each month, except November and December, the Archives shows a movie that deals with alcoholism and recovery.
MEMBERSHIP: The Archives Committee is made up of members of the Area Assembly and members of
A.A. who want to learn about the history of A.A. and to help preserve our history. There is no requirement to join the Committee other than a reasonable amount of sobriety and a desire to serve.
ARCHIVES REPOSITORY: The Archives Repository is located at 7111 Arlington Avenue, Suite B, Riverside CA 92503. Open every Saturday from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. and by appointment. To schedule an appointment, please call the Archives at (951) 785-0845 of email to archives@msca09aa.org. An appointment may also be scheduled by calling Mitchell B., Area Archivist, at (949) 278-8263.
PROJECTS: In addition to Open House, Heritage Day, and Movie Night, the Archives Committee is involved in numerous projects ranging from sorting and cataloging the collections, organizing and digitizing over 3000 speaker tapes of early A.A. members, and gather histories of A.A. groups throughout Southern California. We can use your help. Bring your group, District or a group of your closest friends to the Archives to help us sort, catalog, organize, or any other of a myriad of projects. Whatever your talents we can find something to match your talents and interests.
